OpenOffice.org OO643C port for PPC Linux --------------------------------------- Announcing OpenOffice.org OO643C for PPC Linux (The latest Development Release) What's New in This Release -------------------------- - built using gcc-3.2.1 final - many new features added - improved font handling - new multiple thesaurus support - ability to export directly to PDF files - bug fixes and stability improvments Please note the usual disclaimers: OpenOffice.org is under continuous development. So please do not use this piece of software and then complain that you "lost everything". You have been WARNED! For more info on the status of OpenOffice.org, please see http://www.openoffice.org What's Here ----------- OOo_643C_LinuxPPC_installer.tar.gz OpenOffice_README.ppclinux (inside the installer is a complete installation/setup guide in pdf format) Install Instructions -------------------- This thing is huge, you need probably 250 meg free at least. This install has two phases and both are graphical (use XFree86) Phase 1: by root: tar -zxf OOo_643C_LinuxPPC_installer.tar.gz cd OOo_643C_LinuxPPC_installer chown -R root:root ./ Select one of: ./install --prefix=/usr/local # non graphical auto install or ./install --interactive # graphical interactive install Phase 2: by each interested user After phase 1 is over, each interested user must cd to the base install location and do the following: cd /usr/local/OpenOffice.org643 ./setup Choose a "Workstation" install and remember to select your jre/jdk 1.3.1 installation location. To Run OpenOffice ----------------- After installation simply do the following: cd $HOME/OpenOffice.org643 ./soffice Or look your KDE or GNOME menus for the OpenOffice.org folder with menu items Setting Up a Printer ------------------- Printing has been made much easier now that OpenOffice supports a new postscript printing system. To set things up for your printer: 1. cd to install location 2. run the printing admin program "spadmin" 3. Create New Printer and pick the correct printing command, postscript printer description file (ppd), etc You can also use spadmin to easily install extra fonts for use by OpenOffice.org Building From Source -------------------- http://www.openoffice.org/dev_docs/source/build_linux.html Fopr more info contact me for a short guide to building from source and some ppc specific pieces if necessary.
