Seem Broken, But Aren't
- Some anti-virus software, including Norton's, will report that
the install boot floppies contain a virus (usually reported as the
"Bloodhound" virus.) This is a false positive; there is
no virus.
- The Cutemouse mouse drive will fail to load unless you use the
/W (TSR) command line option.
Broken
- Oops. I didn't build the html Help package correctly. It cannot
find its HELP.HTM file. To fix this, copy the BIN\FILES\HELP.HTM
file to BIN\HELP.HTM.
- Since I had to use FreeCOM 0.79a, there is a problem if you boot
the install boot floppy on a system that does not have a writable C:
drive (or C: is not formatted yet.) 0.79a always wrote to a log file
C:\freedos.log for later debugging. The obvious side effect is that
if C: is not writable (or isn't there) then it freaks out and hangs.
So you could work around this by downloading 0.79c, do the install
from that (it works fine from floppy) then change back to 0.79a when
you boot from hard disk. I know it's a little weird, and if I can
get a fix from Steffen (maintainer of freecom) I will definitely
update the boot floppy.
- DWIN (GUI-1 install disk) is missing .bgi files, so if you run it
you will get the message WTIE handled a graphics problem and
then file not found.
Changes And Updates
- Yes, I know that the current version of FreeCOM is 0.79c, but I
could not get this to work when I installed it. So I am using
0.79a, which seems to work fine.
