The Ikon software has been released under Public Domain by its author, Andrew Boehringer, in November 2009. Below is the original announcement. Download ikon.zip from www.mediafire.com/ikonsoftware It includes ikonsrc.zip inside the archive which holds all the sources from the kernel, to the gui server, to all of the current applications. If anyone is interested in compiling everything you'll need a few libs which are explained in a readme in ikonsrc.zip I am working on a new version of Ikon which is based on Haiku, so if anyone wants to continue developing Ikon, or using the sources in their own projects, please don't use the name "Ikon" as I'm still using it for my new operating system. Ikon was started back in 2004 while I was still learning C, so the sources are a bit of a mess, and not very well commented at all. It will generate several warnings, especially when compiling some of the apps, this again, is because most of them were written early on with little experience. Everything is written in C. There is no ASM, C++, or BASIC. I won't be able to help anyone out with compiling or anything as I'm too busy with the new version. But I don't think it that hard to get it to compile. There are a couple reasons why I wanted to release Ikon into the public domain, the main reason is because I'm using Haiku as a base for my new version, I feel the need to give something back to the programming community. All those people asking me to open source Ikon also affected my decision. So there you go, do what you want with it, just don't use Ikon as your GUI's name. Download ikon.zip from www.mediafire.com/ikonsoftware The file sources.zip just contains the sources to any GPL programs that were distributed with Ikon such as the FreeDOS kernel.
