NET Command Syntax Chart
You must include all punctuation (except braces, brackets and bars) such as periods, equal signs, forward slashes and backslashes, where illustrated in the syntax. NET VIEWThis command is useful when you need to view the display on a remote machine's screen. Using this command, you can view any remote machine's screen in real time, from any machine on the network. If you do not wish other users to see what is on your screen, you can disable this function by setting the NetView= parameter in your DOSNET.INI file to 0 (disable). On slow network links such as modems, this command may take a few seconds before it updates your screen. This is because the entire screen (4k) is sent down the communications line. If you are using a modem and color is unimportant, you should use the optional parameter MONO which returns only the characters on the screen, but not the colors. This command also displays the correct palette selection when viewing EGA or VGA type screens. Syntax: NET VIEW {\\computername} [MONO | FAST | MODEM | PASSWORD] To use the NET VIEW command to display the screen output of the machine (known as \\SERVER1), type the following command: NET VIEW \\SERVER1 PASSWORD If a PASSWORD is required you must specify the password as specified for the SysPass= parameter in the remote machine's DOSNET.INI file under the heading [SETUP]. The MONO option displays only the characters on the remote screen, not the colors. The MODEM option displays the screen in 2k blocks instead of 1k blocks. The FAST option updates the display as fast as possible (not recommended over modems). The MONO, FAST, MODEM and PASSWORD options may be specified in any order. The table below lists the screen modes supported by the current NET VIEW command:
EGA 43 rows and VGA 50 rows are also supported. NOTE The remote user being viewed will not be aware that their screen is being viewed by other users. If you are working with sensitive information such as spreadsheets or accounts software, which must be kept private, you should disable the NET VIEW function as explained above or change the SysPass= parameter in the DOSNET.INI file to a secret password.
