CURRENT_MEETING_REPORT_ Reported by Jeffrey Schiller/MIT Minutes of the Privacy Enhanced Mail Working Group (PEM) The PEM Working Group met at the San Jose IETF on Tuesday December 6, 1994. Jeff Schiller Chaired the session in the absence of and at the request of Steve Kent, PEM Working Group Chair. Document Discussion There was one item on the agenda: Consideration of moving the MIME-PEM integration documents (draft-ietf-pem-mime-07.txt and draft-ietf-pem-sigenc-02.txt) to Proposed Standard. Jeff started the discussion by asking for a show of hands of those who had read the latest documents. Roughly 25% of the 60 or so people present indicated that they had read the documents. Roughly 50% indicated that they had read the document versions as they existed after the Toronto IETF. Jim Galvin, one of the document's authors explained that the changes made since Toronto were to accommodate input received at the Toronto meeting. Beyond that input the only other change was the removal of the PGP key identifiers from consideration. Additional discussion revolved around the lack of implementation experience, only TIS has an implementation. Some concern was raised that no one really knew how to process a recursive MIME message that had PEM enhancements embedded in it. Discussion continued for about 30 minutes after which no new points were being raised. At this point Jeff asked those present if anyone objected to moving the documents forward as is, allowing for editing changes that have no direct impact on the protocol. The consensus was to move on. The Group agreed that the next step is to publish a last call on the mailing list. Assuming the last call on the mailing list results in a consensus position, Steve Kent, PEM Working Group Chair will decide when to request the document be advanced to Proposed Standard.
