Abstract This draft not only describes the management model which is universal to all PSN types supported by PWE3 architecture, but also defines an experimental part of MIB on Internet community network management protocol. Especially, the draft describes the managed objects of L2VPN service on packet switching network, including VPWS, VPLS and IPLS services. Different from PW MIB, the MIB provides the management jin Expires: Apr. 2007 [Page 1] Internet-Draft draft-weilian-l2vpn-mib-02 Oct.2006 models for L2VPN service, including the management models of L2VPN service instance, L2VPN PW specific parameters, L2VPN AC Access parameters and traffic statistics for L2VPN service. Acknowledgements jin Expires: Apr. 2007 [Page 2] Internet-Draft draft-weilian-l2vpn-mib-02 Oct.2006 The authors would like to thank XuZhijun, DuKe, ZhuXinhua, ChenJianye and all the other people who have contributed to this draft. We would also like to thank the authors of [PW-ETH-MIB], [PW-MIB] and [PW-MPLS-MIB], since those document is the basis of our work. 3. Introduction The document describes a kind of management model of L2VPN service based on packet switching network. The MIB module contains the definitions of such managed objects as L2VPN service instance, L2vpn PW specific parameters, L2vpn AC Access parameters, traffic statistics and L2VPN alarm trap. Based on such a model, the L2VPN service instance on PE and PW that associated between sites can be managed. 4. Terminology We assume that readers are familiar with the terms defined in [RFC3209], [RFC4090], [RFC2205], [RFC3743], [L2FRAM], [VPLS], [PWCNTRL], [IPLS]. 5. The Internet-Standard Management Framework For a detailed overview of the documents that describe the current Internet-Standard Management Framework, please refer to section 7 of RFC 3410 [RFC3410]. Managed objects are accessed via a virtual information store, termed the Management Information Base or MIB. MIB objects are generally accessed through the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). Objects in the MIB are defined using the mechanisms defined in the Structure of Management Information (SMI). This memo specifies a MIB module that is compliant to the SMIv2, which is described in STD 58, RFC 2578 [RFC2578], STD 58, RFC 2579 [RFC2579] and STD 58, RFC 2580 [RFC2580]. 6. L2VPN MIB Module Architecture The L2VPN MIB architecture is associated with [PW-MIB] and [IF-MIB], which separatly define the pseudo wire management information base and attachment circuit management information base. The architecture is shown in figure 1. L2VPN MIB configures the general parameters that an L2VPN instance needs, the PWs that associated to the L2VPN service, the ACs that attached to the L2VPN service. Some specific parameters that is need jin Expires: Apr. 2007 [Page 3] Internet-Draft draft-weilian-l2vpn-mib-02 Oct.2006 for specific L2VPN service type are also configured in this MIB. What's more, the L2VPN service traffic statistics and notification is defined in this MIB. [PW-MIB] defines the PW MIB, and L2VPN MIB MUST create a table to associate PWs to the specific L2VPN service. [IF-MIB] defines the interfaces group MIB. If L2VPN service needs local attachment circuit, a table MUST be created to provide an association between L2VPN service and Attachement Circuit. [PW-ETH] defines the Ethernet Pseudo Wire Management Information Base and [PW-MPLS-MIB] defines Pseudo Wire over MPLS PSN Management Information Base. +----------+ +------------------+ PW Associated | | | | -->| PW MIB |--->|PW-ETH/PW-MPLS-MIB| / | | | | / +----------+ +------------------+ +------------+ / | |/ | L2VPN MIB | +----------+ | |\ | | +------------+ \----->| IF MIB | AC Attached | | +----------+ Figure 1. L2VPN MIB Module Architecture L2VPN MIB Module contains 7 parts. Scalar Objects defines some global parameters for L2VPN service. The brief description of other mib parts can be found in section 7. +----------------+ +---------+ |L2VPN Statistics| | AC | +----------------+ | Access |\ +-----------+ +----------+ | Table | \ | | | | +---------+ \-->| L2VPN | | L2VPN | | Instance |<-----| PW | | Table | | Table | /-->| | | | +---------+ / +-----------+ +----------+ | Bridge |/ +--------------+ +------------+ | Table | |Scalar Objects| |Notification| +---------+ +--------------+ +------------+ Figure 2. Relations between MIB tables 6.1 Relations to other MIB modules jin Expires: Apr. 2007 [Page 4] Internet-Draft draft-weilian-l2vpn-mib-02 Oct.2006 - PW MIB is defined in [PW-MIB] and l2vpnPWTable provied an association between the pwTable (defined in [PW-MIB]) and L2VPN Instance table. - Interface Group MIB is defined in [IF-MIB] and l2vpnAcAccessTable provied an association between the ifTable (defined in [IF-MIB]) and L2VPN Instance table. - L2VPN PW traffic statistics and AC traffic statistics are found in [PW-MIB] and [IF-MIB], so L2VPN MIB only defines the L2VPN statistics for avoid overlap. 7. Brief Description of MIB Objects 7.1 L2VPN instance table L2VPN instance table(l2vpnInstanceTable) includes the L2VPN service instance information created on PE equipment, which is used to discover and create L2VPN service. 7.2 L2VPN PW table L2VPN PW table(l2vpnPWTable) contains the L2VPN PW information parameters that is specific for the L2VPN service and is used to associated the PW to L2VPN Instance. The table is created on PE equipment, which is used to topologically discover and create L2VPN service. 7.3 L2VPN AC Access table L2VPN AC Access table(l2vpnAcAccessTable) contains the AC information attached to the L2VPN service. 7.4 L2VPN bridge table L2VPN bridge table(l2vpnBridgeTable) his table contains the bridge attributes that is spcific only for VPLS service. 7.5 L2VPN Traffic statistics table The L2VPN Statistic Table means accumulative statistics of traffic on a specific L2VPN sevice at one side of PSN in a specific period of time. 7.6 L2VPN notification If one or more L2VPN services' status become down or L2VPN service has been deleted, this notification will be sent. 8. Example of L2VPN Setup jin Expires: Apr. 2007 [Page 5] Internet-Draft draft-weilian-l2vpn-mib-02 Oct.2006 In this section, we provide a brief example of using the MIB objects described in the following section. While this example is not meant to illustrate every nuance of the MIB, it is intended as an aid to understanding some of the key concepts. It is our intent that it is read only after the reader has gone through the MIB itself. This configuration is under the assumption that 1) MPLS has been pre-configured in the network, through enabling LDP target session; 2) VPLS has been configured on this PE with three PWs and one AC attached.
