Membership Benefits

The Cornell CU-SeeMe Consortium provides resources to the CU-SeeMe
project to research, develop and deliver innovative solutions for
real-time multiparty videoconferencing on the Internet and to improve
communication and technology transfer between Consortium members. Its
goals of fostering professional collaboration in open forums on
issues affecting rapid deployment of affordable desktop conferencing
software will be achieve through a variety of Consortium sponsored
activities.
The Consortium Activities include:
- Technical Briefings - Cover goals and priorities of CU-SeeMe
development and new features planning presented by developers from
Cornell and elsewhere; will be held in conjunction with associated
meetings to help deal with the costs of travel
- Electronic Briefings - Held throughout the year reporting on
consortium activities and CU-SeeMe and reflector software
development.
- Annual Meeting - Report to consortium members on status of
consortium membership, funding and accomplishments over the past
year.
- Joint Projects - May be focused on development, deployment, or
support of CU-SeeMe and its uses.
- Sponsor Roundtable - An executive level strategic discussion
between executive representatives of Sponsors, the project team,
Cornell University, and others as appropriate.
- Technical Residency - Available to consortium members who wish to
work on site with CU-SeeMe development team. Projects must be
approved before member comes onsite. See Technical residency
guidelines for more information and available space for 1994.
Membership is open to all organizations with an interest in
affordable, real-time conferencing technologies on the Internet.
Members contribute financially according to a sliding fee scale which
is based on the ability of organizations to pay and the level of
support they wish to give to the project. Each level of membership
provides the member organization with a particular level of
participation in the Consortium activities. The four levels of
membership receive the following direct benefits:
Sponsor - Sponsors may send up to 5 people to the technical briefings
at no additional cost. As a sponsor, they receive 12 months of
technical residency. They receive first refusal on technical
residency space. Executive representatives from Sponsor members are
invited to attend the Sponsor Roundtable, a strategic discussion
focused on strategic importance of real-time video conferencing
deployment on the continuing development of the Information
Superhighway, as well as the Annual Meeting. Yearly Membership fee: $50,000
Associates - Associates may send up to 3 people to the technical
briefings at no additional cost. As an Associate, they receive 6
months of technical residency. Executive representatives of
Associate members are invited to attend the Annual
Meeting. Yearly Membership fee: $25,000
Affiliates- Affiliates may send up to 2 people to the technical
briefings at no additional cost. As an Affiliate, they receive 3
months of technical residency time. Executive representatives of
Affiliate members are invited to attend the Annual
Meeting. Yearly Membership fee: $15,000
Contributors- Contributors may send 1 person to the technical
briefings at no additional cost. Contributors do not receive
residency time as part of their membership. They may submit a
proposal to the Project for consideration as a joint project. An
executive representative of Contributors is invited to attend the
Annual
Meeting. Yearly Membership fee: $5,000
To become a Member of the CU-SeeMe Consortium, an organization is
requested to select a level
of participation and support and return a completed Letter of Intent
to the Project. The organization will then
be asked to complete the Consortium Agreement and forward it along
with the appropriate membership fee.
