Preferences Overview

Selecting Preferences... from the Options menu opens the NCSA Mosaic for Windows Preferences menu. There are nine different menus that can be displayed depending on which tab from the two rows you select. (Each section in this chapter displays the corresponding menu.)

Anchors--anchor options
Audio--audio files associated with NCSA Mosaic "events"
Cache--memory and disk cache configurations
Directories--defined directories (e.g., download, news)
Document--document attributes
Fonts--font configuration
News--News configuration
Printing--printing configuration
Proxy--proxy server configuration
Services--general services configuration
Tables--table options
Viewers--MIME type and external viewer definitions
Window--Mosaic window options

Implementing Your Changes

In all versions of this window, clicking:

OK: saves your changes and close the Preferences menu
Apply Now: implements your changes and leaves the specific Preferences menu open. Click OK to make the changes and close the Preferences dialog box.
Cancel: discards any changes and closes the Preferences... menu
Help: opens the help file on the Preferences... menu options

Description Assumption

In this chapter the description of each option assumes the option is on, which means the box in your window is checked

. For example, the description for Show Toolbar reads "displays the toolbar in the Mosaic window on startup," which tells you Mosaic's action when the Show Toolbar box is checked.

Mosaic's action when the option is turned off is stated only in those cases where that action is not apparent as the opposite of the on action. In the example above, "the toolbar is not displayed on startup" is not stated because it is clearly the opposite action of the checked mode.
